Axiom 45: Starting Over

"Vitality shows not only in the ability to persist, but in the ability to start over." -Unkown

"Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending."  -Carl Bard

Many of the world's greatest success stories are rooted in people that were not afraid to start over.

As you get older it becomes harder to start over. There's more to lose at stake if things go wrong. However, starting over might be exactly what you need to do to go to the next level. We often get stuck in a rut, stuck in a routine, and stuck in a state of stagnation. Once you feel stagnant it is a sign that you should consider starting over.

The fear of starting over can be paralyzing. People would often rather be in a safe, unhappy place than to take a risk and start over. If this sounds like you stop for a second and visualize two scenarios. First visualize if you started over and things went as good as they could possibly go. What would that look like? Next visualize if you started over and things went as bad as they could possibly go. What would that look like.

Often the real life worst-case scenarios are not as bad as your initial fears might lead you to believe. So maybe starting over isn't as bad or as risky as you initially thought.

Here's something else to consider: Starting over doesn't always mean completely starting over. If you are starting over and using the same skills you have previously acquired then the risk is much lower and the odds of success are much higher.

I would argue that being in a situation without growth or change is unnatural. Even when things are good too much of the same thing can make us unsatisfied. It is normal to strive for growth and change, even if your current situation is telling you otherwise. Don't be afraid to take the leap and start over if you want to continue to be successful.
